Russian Band Limpopo Concert

Event Held By: University Preparatory School’s High School World Languages Club

Event: Russian band Limpopo concert. Limpopo is a high-energy Russian band made up of five Russian-Americans who emigrated
to the United States throughout the late-eighties and early-nineties. Limpopo features Russian folk music coupled with traditional
Russian dances, instruments (like the balalaika), and costumes.

Purpose for the Concert: University Prep opened a Russian class to its students and Shasta High School students this year (we are
the only Californian school North of Sacramento to offer both Mandarin and Russian language courses). In fall 2008, a Russian class
will open at Foothill High School as well. We would love to help our community learn more about this culture. Proceeds benefit World
Languages Club and will be directed to future cultural events.

Club Motto: To spread the love of language and cultures to our school and community.

Date/time: Saturday, June 7th at 7:00 pm

Location: David Marr Auditorium, Shasta Learning Center
2200 Eureka Way * Redding, CA * 96001

These Mandarin and Russian classes are part of our wider languages program which currently includes Spanish, French, and Latin. They are
supported by ENLACE, a federal foreign languages grant.
