Conversational Mandarin Community Adult Class
Members of the community are invited to register for a conversational Mandarin class. As part of the outreach component of a federal grant program, Shasta Union High School District is offering a course taught by. Dr. Cheng Biao, District high school Mandarin teacher and native speaker. The focus of the class, which will be taught using interactive strategies, will be oral language for basic communication.
Classes will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 PM on Tuesday evenings from January 8 through March 11, 2008. The class will meet in Room 205, Shasta Learning Center, 2200 Eureka Way, Redding.
The class carries no unit credit, is not graded and is designed for adults with little or no Mandarin skills. Those who participated in the summer immersion Fluency Fast program at Shasta Learning Center will find this an opportunity to practice and increase their fluency. Total cost for 10, 3-hour sessions is $150.
We especially welcome parents of students currently enrolled in Mandarin I or II at U-Prep, Enterprise or Shasta High Schools or in Redding School of the Art’s kindergarten immersion class. Your new language skills will encourage (and perhaps amuse) your children! The ENLACE program (Emerging Northstate Language and Cultural Enrichment) funds subsidize part of the costs so parents with students in Mandarin or Immersion classes pay a discounted price of $100 each.
For a registration form via fax or mail, please call the ENLACE program office at 225-8413. Registration is also available online at the program’s website: www. suhsd.net/enlace. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to thirty adults. Enrollment is complete when check and registration form are received.
